The Institute
Our desire is to partner and collaborate with all college/university departments to share resources that can aid in this process and to assist those who need this support and education to enhance their job search and find success. As we are a young organization, and one with national recognition and a success culture we ask that all who work with us leave any ego, politics behind so that we can rapidly accomplish our mission and establish our programs. Complex problems require the help of many and the support of all. Success of this program depends on all to Pay It Forward. We want to engage alumni groups, career services and Continuing Education, and any educational departments who would be interested in helping us with our goal of getting qualified people back to work and in jobs or businesses that they desire. Our rapidly growing group has a large number of very experienced professional who are willing to volunteer to Mentor recent grads and graduating seniors in their professions and career disciplines. We will support the opening of NhN chapters at each interested college/university to allow for our concept to help the students and recent grads, and to train them to lead our format meetings which have proven to be very successful and beneficial. We will work with the career and alumni departments to be able to provide the best resources that are directed to this specific job seeker and deal with issues specific to the new job seeker. We can co sponsor events and be able to offer "open houses" or sample meetings of our format on a periodic basis to allow the students to become familiar with our approach and to encourage them to attend existing meetings we run at local libraries, colleges and soon the Microsoft Retail Stores. Our experiences already in having a mixture of new job seekers meeting with our experienced job seekers has proven to be extremely beneficial to all who participate. Our meeting format can also create a culture of positive, supportive and productive alumni interaction. John Fugazzie and his team at Neighbors Helping Neighbors have performed two outstanding presentations at Monmouth University in the last year. The goal of NhN is to get folks who are unemployed back in the workforce through networking, mutual support, encouragement and solid advice. This grass roots organization provides a great atmosphere where people out of work can come to share ideas, swap contacts and get the motivation they need to keep moving forward in a tough job market. I was impressed with the level of expertise the NhN meeting moderators had of modern job search strategies, as they talked with confidence about “elevator speeches”, promoted the benefits of Linkedin, and discussed the finer points of networking. It is no wonder that John’s organization has spread rapidly across New Jersey and is poised to open in other states. I highly endorse NhN as a way to help college students and alumni in their search for professional employment.
